Hailing from San Francisco’s dynamic metal scene, Embrium merges the atmospheric beauty of shoegaze with the intensity of black metal, creating a sound that is as hauntingly ethereal as it is visceral. Since their 2021 debut EP, which gained recognition from Metal Injection and Apple Music’s "Breaking Metal" and "Fresh Blood" playlists, the band has been hard at work carving out their place in the blackgaze genre with their latest album, Timekeeper (due out March 14, 2025).
Timekeeper is the result of three years of creative exploration, drawing on literary themes of time, loss, the dangers of magic, the struggle of life, and the search for self-identity. The first single, "Eclipse," debuts globally on Decibel Magazine’s website, offering fans an evocative preview of what’s to come.
At the heart of Timekeeper is the collaborative spirit of Embrium’s members. Paul Reed Smith Pulse Artist Monique Hernandez (Mosahefu) and guitarist Joey Menicucci pushed sonic boundaries writing the album alongside the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, crafting songs rich in shimmering melodies and visceral intensity. Complementing their vision, Jade Forsythe’s evocative vocals bring both haunting beauty and raw power, while Matt Baird’s dynamic drumming anchors the album’s emotional depth.
Together, the band brought their collective artistry to life at Fang Studios in San Mateo, California, under the production expertise of Nick Loiacono. Guest contributions include Ian Forsythe (Cyborg Octopus) on “Hyperion” and Kyle Schaefer (Fallujah, Archeologist) on a cover version of The Mars Volta’s “Televators.”
Joined by Ayani Hayashi to bring the Embrium low-end sound to life on bass, Embrium is ready to hit the stage and share their evocative soundscapes with metal fans everywhere.
