Embrium’s Latest Album “Timekeeper” - Out Now!

San Francisco-based blackgaze band Embrium unleashes their highly anticipated debut full-length album, Timekeeper, out now. Following the success of their 2021 self-titled EP—featured on Metal Injection and Apple Music's Breaking Metal and Fresh Blood playlists—the band has spent the past three years crafting a collection of songs that push the boundaries of ethereal blackgaze.

Led by Mosahefu (guitar, vocals) and Joey Menicucci (guitar, vocals), Timekeeper was brought to life with the versatile vocals of Jade Forsythe, the explosive drumming of Matt Baird, and production by Nick Loiacono at Fang Studios (San Mateo, CA). Embrium has also welcomed Ayani Hayashi on bass to bring the album to the stage.

Exploring themes of time, loss and the struggle for life, Timekeeper draws inspiration from dark fantasy worlds like those found in Berserk, Hyperion, and Claymore. The album’s soundscape balances black metal intensity with shoegaze’s verby soundscapes—where waves of distortion blend with haunting melodies.

Timekeeper also features collaborations with artists such as Ian Forsythe (Cyborg Octopus) on the Bathory-inspired “Hyperion” and Kyle Schaefer (Fallujah, Archeologist) on a haunting rendition of The Mars Volta’s “Televators.”

Embrium’s [Timekeeper] creates a hauntingly beautiful amalgamation of black metal brutality with the ambient aura of shoegaze to perfection. [Their] debut pleasantly surprised me. It is complex and fresh enough to catch the eye of seasoned listeners, yet approachable enough to not seem too out of the realm of mainstream acceptance.
